Being the Cibao the most fertile region of the country, combining agricultural and livestock production with a large industrial infrastructure, with tourist activity and with the exploitation of mining deposits, great growth and development has been achieved, which is the result of the effort and contributions from the private sector, supported by the public sector.
The traditional and recognized industriousness of its people, who undertake large, medium and small business projects, has the support of government entities, which support production, guaranteeing the legal framework of operations, financing, advice, technical support, health , education and all the necessary bases for the good performance of each one of the productive sectors.
To support the sectors linked to the agricultural and livestock sectors of Cibao and the rest of the country, the Dominican government has several organizations, among which four (4) specialized institutions stand out, which are: Ministry of Agriculture, Dominican Agrarian Institute, Banco Agrícola and the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources.
In the area of health, the Dominican government offers assistance to all citizens through three (3) main institutions, which are: Ministry of Public Health, National Health Service and the Superintendency of Health and Occupational Risks.
These health entities have important representations in the northern zone, with scope in the fourteen (14) provinces that comprise it.
Education, at all levels, is guaranteed by the Dominican State for the entire country and specifically for the Cibao region, through four (4) agencies that serve different levels of education, which are detailed below: Ministry of Education, Autonomous University of Santo Domingo, Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology and the Institute of Technical-Professional Training (North Regional).
For the activities of the business areas (industrial and commercial) in the northern region, the public sector has a strong presence regulating and stimulating through different institutions, the most important being: Ministry of Industry, Commerce and MSMEs, ProDominicana (export and foreign investment), the National Competitiveness Council and the National Council for Export Free Zones.
The stimulus for tourism (local and international), especially from the beaches in the north and northeast areas (Puerto Plata, Nagua and Samaná), as well as the mountain attractions of Jarabacoa and Constanza, is led in the public sector by the Ministry of Tourism and the new logo of the Country Brand, as well as by the Corporation for the Promotion of the Hotel Industry and Tourism Development.
Regarding the supply of water for human consumption, Cibao has four (4) aqueduct and sewerage corporations, which belong to the cities of Santiago de los Caballeros, La Vega, Puerto Plata and Espaillat (Moca).
The remaining ten (10) cities receive drinking water through the National Institute of Potable Water and Sewerage (INAPA)
The preservation of the environment in Cibao, by the Dominican State, is a responsibility of the Ministry of the Environment, which has the collaboration of the mayors of the cities and their municipalities, as well as several non-profit organizations that are They are interested in issues related to the ecology and nature of the region.
The government financial sector plays a highly relevant role in the economic development of the northern region, led by the Central Bank, the Ministry of Finance, the Superintendency of Banks and the Reserve Bank, the latter being a bank that competes with the others. private banks, but that offers great support to the financial activities carried out by the government.
Regarding the construction of highways, roads and government buildings in Cibao, the public body is the Ministry of Public Works and Communications. This entity is also in charge of evaluating, approving and supervising the constructions carried out by the private sector, in order to guarantee compliance with the quality standards of each work.
In the tasks of approval and supervision of private constructions, the mayors of each city and municipality of Cibao and the rest of the country are also involved, through the ordinances and regulations attributed by laws, to maintain control and registration in their respective territories.
Along with the aforementioned public entities there are others that also affect the development of the area and as we can see, the radius of action of government entities in support of the Cibao is quite wide, so their involvement is key to the proper development of their productive activities.
